Turn off one inch barrels with band engraving at each end and numbered 1 and 2 to match the numbers stamped on the underside of the breeches, round box lock actions engraved with foliage and trophies, finely engraved dolphin head hammers, hidden triggers emerging on full cock and retaining some of their original blueing, rounded swelling butts profusely inlaid with silver leaves and flower heads, finely cast silver lion’s head butt cap with arcanthus leaf border engraving, silver wrist escutcheons with owners initials ‘H G’, in their original deep purple velvet lined case the lid with brass inlays and vacant brass escutcheon and containing all the original accessories including red leather covered three way flask, ball mould, turnscrew with powder measure and pricker, barrel key and spare nipples.

Henry J. Bales (1781-1835) worked for Forsyth & Co. in London from c. 1808 before setting up on his own account at 2 Upper James St., Golden Square in 1811. Moved to Cornill, Ipswich 1814-1830.
