With 28 inch sighted browned barrels and elevated top rib, recessed breeches with single gold line and inset maker’s gold poincions, platinum touch holes, tang engraved with sunburst and trophies, border engraved locks each with a hare engraved to the heel and signed MANTON, French cocks, rain proof pans and roller frizzens, figured walnut half stock with engraved steel mounts including butt plate with tang decorated with a pointer in undergrowth, pineapple trigger plate finial echoed on the ramrod entry pipe, silver wrist escutcheon with crest above a Latin motto, brass mounted ramrod with capped charge extraction screw, London proof marks.

Note: Unrecorded in the Manton books by Neal & Back. The crest is that of General John Hope (1765-1823), member of Parliament and later Lord– Lieutenant of Linlithgowshire, 19th Baron Niddry and 4th Earl of Hopetown. He had a distinguished military career and was a hero of the Peninsular War.
