With 32 inch sighted browned twist barrels signed on the rib “JOSEPH MANTON, HANOVER SQUARE, LONDON”, engraved at the breech between two inlet platinum maker’s stamps and single platinum line, the undersides stamped with the serial number repeated on the breeches and the barrel maker’s mark of Charles Lancaster, platinum lined touch holes, beautifully engraved tang with typical wolves’ heads and floral scrolls , colour hardened signed locks with further examples of engraving from Joe Manton’s best period and stamped inside with the serial number, figured walnut half stock with chequered wrist, vacant escutcheon, border and scroll engraved steel mounts including pineapple finials to the trigger guard and ramrod entry pipe, with good traces of original blued finish, fittings for a sling, brass mounted ramrod with capped screw.
