With 30 inch browned sighted barrels numbered 1 and inscribed on the rib in gothic script “T.E. Mortimer Edinburgh late St. James St London” scroll engraved tang, locks engraved en suite and each with a different game scene and the maker’s signature, figured walnut half stock with chequering to the wrist and fore end, iron mounts engraved en suite with a further game scene on the trigger guard bow, brass mounted ramrod with capped extraction screw, in its pigskin lined and fitted oak case with John Dickson & Son trade label over stuck with an owner’s label bearing a crest and motto, with accessories including powder and shot flasks, turn screws, brass cap dispenser and an oil bottle. A note in the case suggests that this gun together with serial number 5974 were made as a pair for a Major Ferguson.
