Made to impress an Eastern potentate and retaining most of its original finish with 15 inch blued two stage octagonal to round sighted barrel with silver and gilt decoration and signed H W MORTIMER on the top flat, the flanking faces with gold banners engraved with flowers on the left and GUNMAKER TO HIS MAJESTY on the right, the tang incorporating the rear sight decorated with gilded trophies, walnut full stock profusely inlaid with silver decorated stars, cornucopia and musical instruments, silver gilt mounts including side plate decorated with trophies, elaborate vacant escutcheon, ornately engraved long eared pommel, trigger guard with stand of arms finial in relief, gilt mounted ramrod with capped worm, Birmingham hallmarks for 1800 and silver maker’s mark I-B for Joseph Bunney; in a later associated mahogany brass mounted fitted case with period accessories.
