A Fine Pair of Double Barrelled 29-bore Carriage Pistols
Each pistol with 9 inch round re-browned sighted barrels signed PROSSER on the left barrel and CHARING CROSS LONDON on the right with gold line at the breech and gold lined touch holes, engraved grooved tang, signed border engraved bevelled locks each with engraved safety catch, stepped tail with some original blued finish, one cock an expert replacement, figured walnut half stock, deeply chequered ‘Catalan’ style butts, engraved blued iron mounts including trigger guard with pineapple finial and heel cap engraved ‘Prosser 1803’ original horn tipped ramrods, one with worm, and some original finish. John Prosser was appointed Sword Cutler and Beltmaker to King George III in 1795 and to King George IV in 1827. He was noted for his fine Catalan butted pistols and it seems likely that these were his only output to be serial numbered.
